Children are fascinated with dinosaurs. So many dinosaur toys, books, posters, movies, cartoons, foods, all made for children; to educate, to entertain, to make children use their imaginations and pretend they're in a prehistoric world full of dinosaurs that romp, stomp, and roar to their heart's content. Or pretend they're in a Jurassic Park type setting where dinosaurs were cloned through ancient DNA and were to be part of a prehistoric theme park, but they got out and began to terrorize the island; chasing humans trying to eat them or have the humans try to recapture and put them back in their pens and paddocks or have the good humans escape from the park and the bad humans be eaten just like in the movie. All sorts of adventures children will imagine and be inspired when they read books like James Gurney's Dinotopia and Time Flies, a picture book and learn the names and faces of the dinosaurs featuring in huge big libraries of books that have loads of educational fun facts about dinosaurs and play with many dinosaur toys, games, and such. But, sorry to say, this is not what Ken Ham wants for a child to learn about when it comes to dinosaurs.
His way of educating kids about dinosaurs is all about brainwashing and indoctrinating children to idiocy, denial, and the acceptance of a fictional scenario the earth being 6,000 years young and dinosaurs once lived with man as truth, never mind the evidence pointing to the opposite.
He imagine this all up just by making it all up and shoehorning them into Genesis 1-11, then regard it as the one that is accurate, correct, and the right one to believe, while the truth is completely the opposite. Ham and the rest of the motley crue of creationists claim that these teachings will make you be stimulated with joy and happiness and promote positive thinking, while in fact those teachings will actually make you as virtuous as Osama Bin Laden.
Intro To The Book
So, to start off brainwashing children, he, with the help of his wife, wrote and published an ABC book for little children called D is for Dinosaur, A Rhyme Book and More (DIFD). It's all about the ABC's of idiocy where children can learn the ABCs and dinosaur idiocies all told in Ham's way. This book is published in 1991 and is accompanied by a VHS video of the same name. The book is for misguided Christian school and Home school teachers to use to brainwash their students and gives out some information on how to "educate" children into becoming religious snobs, slanderous liars, stone-hearted, stiff-necked, and to intimidate, scare, and threaten others who tell them different. The book is also a coloring book that teachers can copy, print out and give to their students to color. As for me, my color preference for all of them is black, black, and more black, just like the sinful heart. Much of the coloring pages depicting crappy cartoon scenes have already been colored black, black, and more black due to too much black shadings being made on the coloring pages, while the normal crappy cartoon scenes in the first section is all colorized in chalk and watercolor art.
Another Accompaniment
There is another accompaniment to Ham's ABCs of idiocy series and It's called A is for Adam, a book that's in the exact same format as DIFD and contains the same idiocy as the other book has and is also accompanied by a VHS and DVD video of the same name just like DIFD. A is for Adam is all about basic young earth excrement all formatted for indoctrinating children of Preschool and Kindergarten age, while DIFD is all formatted to use those cartoonish dinosaurs to indoctrinate of children of Preschool and Kindergarten age into idiocy. However, this essay will only be about exposing DIFD and all of its flaws found within for all to see.
Cover Descriptions
To start the rebuttal off, both the front book cover and page 39 inside shows cartoonish animals, including dinosaurs, leaving the ark wearing sunglasses on their faces, especially the purple dinosaur (no, not Barney!) who turns out to be the main character featured in the book. On the back cover, on the upper left hand corner there is a family portrait of Ham (in his younger years) and his family. On the right, it there is a brief description of the book being a three in one multipurpose family (sic) book, a rhyming book, a coloring book, and a Sunday (Sundry to be exact.) school, home (misguided) school, Christian (misguided) school, and a home (sic) devotional teaching book. On the bottom part of the back cover there is a note from Ham wrote, with the help of his wife, telling the reader on how they strive to "teach" and "educate" their children in the so-called "things of the Lord" which, to Ham, it is nothing more than the "Letter of the Law," used to brainwash children into believing that it is OK to blaspheme God, lie for Him, twist the truth, mudsling, and slander those who tell them different, scapegoat evolution by blaming it for all of the world's evils including family problems, suicide, and abortion, sexual immorality and much, much more. This is not biblical and Christian-like and they know it!
Then Ham states that the so-called "humanistic evolutionary" shows on tv are leading many [sic] precious lives astray, while it is really HE who is leading many "precious lives" astray with his stupid lies and downright ignorance. He claims it is his and his wife's burden to produce quality books he claims parents and children will use to "not only learn about the Bible and God's Word, but to be also to defend our pseudo-Christian wishful thinking against the onslaughts of evolutionary ideas that are so persuasive and so factual and accurate in our society (my response in bold)" while what they are really encouraging them to do is damage and destroy the Christian faith and denigrate parents and children into becoming just as ignorant as Ham and his wife themselves are.
Ham states that the father is suppose to be the spiritual head of the family, leading them all to the truth as told according to Isaiah 35:19 KJV. However, this is, in fact, part of a passage where, when put in full text, it shows Good King Hezekiah praising the Lord for saving his life and healing him of his cancer— a direct example of Ham twisting the Bible to make it fit in with his beliefs, just like many rogue Christian do to help justify atrocities they themselves have committed. He believes this book "provides a unique opportunity for parents, and particularly fathers, to spend time with their children and teach them the blunderful lies of creation using those fascinating creatures - the dinosaurs." (emphases in bold.)
Ham states that they tried to make the book entertaining, instructive, and colorful by making the book into a rhyming book since most children they find like to learn and recite rhymes. They may hope ( just like the note says.) that this is the book parents and children will love (actually hate, unless they are deluded into following the lies of this demagogue who wrote this drudgery.) and stimulate family togetherness (actually it will cause division and strife between those who follow YEEism and those who embrace scientific reality.) and encourage them to read books rather than watching television (it won't) and pray that this will request more and more "Please read me a story, daddy. But, not that book again!" This in reality will do MORE HARM THAN GOOD to the family in educating them on dinosaurs and learning about the scientific history of planet earth as well as learning about the Christian faith. All that the book will do is make the family be as ignorant, slanderous, and in denial as Ham is.
Instructions
On page 1 of the book, there are instructions of how to use the book to indoctrinate children by either using it as a coloring book, a rhyme book, and devotional book as well as some acknowledgment of those who help to make this trash heap possible as well as a dedication statement for the 5 children of Ham's who enjoys reading books including God's word (or rather Ham's Word).
The ABC Intro
On pages 2 and 64, we see the following phrase"
"A B C D E F G God made the world, it's plain to see."
Not the way according to the creationists He did. The bottom part of page 64 shows the first of many Stupid Lessons taught on how to indoctrinate children based on that phrase.
On page 62-63 there is a whole chapter of Genesis 1 of the King James Bible shown on 2 pages of the book. This is Ham's own bible; "The Letter of the Law." The bible he and the other creationists focus their own dogma on, never mind anything else. Here's the first example on how to indoctrinate children to idiocy and denial. Parents and teachers are encouraged to read the passage to the children several times throughout the Idiot Exercises being "taught" to children. This is the first example of indoctrination of children into idiocy.
Teachers are to show the children some no-good examples on how God made the earth by showing the verse in Romans 1:20 claiming the verse is evidence that God created everything and people who don't believe it are without excuse. Neither is creationists without excuse for blaspheming God and attacking people through violent actions and outright slander. This verse actually describes the YECs themselves and there ignorance of the details of how God did it through scientific evidence. It shows how to be self-righteous and show no shame in lashing out at anyone who disagree with them while ignoring their own flaws and sins.
Greg Nayman of Answers in Creation has an article about the verse and how it imply to YEC's denials of old earth reality found right here.
Teachers are to show the children examples of airplanes, arrowheads, pebbles, and other objects and tell the children that everything shown here is not made by chance (which evolution speaks nothing of. Reference here.) or disorder which is a gross misunderstanding and misinterpretation of how the 2nd law of thermodynamics operate. There is an Idiot Exercise made up to indoctrinate children into believing the falsehood of "intelligent design" by making them build something with Lego blocks or "bricks" as Ham calls them. Intelligent Design is form of creationism where it teaches that there must have been a designer behind the complex forms that are out there. Evolution, according to ID, could not have made everything so complex as the bombardier beetle for instance, which is a blatant lie. This is nothing more than a tactical disguise; a cloak used to cover up their religious idiocy so that no one will know of their true intentions to force their faulty doctrine into science classrooms in a very deceptive way. To help combat this tripe, there is a website called talkdesign.org, which is a sister site to talkorigins.org that deals with the issue of intelligent design and how it is all flawed to the core. You can also see a page in Talk Origins that deals with the issue of the 2nd law of thermodynamics and how the YECs remarks about evolution violating the 2nd law of thermodynamics is clearly shown to be downright false right here.
Dinosaur Hypocrisy
On page 4 and 66, shows the next phrase.
"H I J K L M N But did He make dinosaurs, and if so, when?"
Here's another Stupid Lesson shown at the bottom of page 66 where teachers are to inform their students hypocritically that dinosaurs have been used more than anything else to convince to the young people that evolution is true and that the process took millions of years to do through many [sic] "intense evolutionary indoctrination" and most children do not think of God has having made the dinosaurs. This statement is downright hypocritical because creationists like Ham do the exactly the very same thing. They use the dinosaurs to get children to believe through intense creation indoctrination that dinosaurs lived thousands of years ago along side of man— exactly what Ham does himself! Look into his crackhouse and you'll find scores of models made up of Hollywood caricatures of dinosaurs dotting the building inside and out and how Ham is used them to indoctrinate children to deny reality and accept creation lies.
Ham tells teachers to tell children that the term "prehistoric" is used to describe a time set before man began to record history; however, launching into a priori remark, the Bible is a record — albeit a false record — of recorded history since time began. In it, it says allegedly that man was created on day 6 along with the land animals including dinosaurs. It doesn't. The Bible simply says in Genesis 1:26-27 that on the 6th Day, God created both tame and wild animals and animals that crawl. Then God created man in His own image. "Male and female He created them." The verse doesn't say anything about dinosaurs and other prehistoric life at all. But that doesn't stop creationists from asserting that the verse must include dinosaurs in the mix because after all, dinosaurs were all land animals and all land animals were created on the same day man was created in God's image. So therefore, man and dinosaurs lived at the same time, never mind the real biblical, fossil, historical, and archaeological records clearly stating otherwise.
For a long time, many Christians highly regarded the passages of Genesis 1-11 to be allegoric. Even St. Augustine had problems with the Genesis account and realized the passages shown in the Bible could definitely be ruled as allegoric. So let Genesis 1-11 be regarded as allegoric based on Greek and Babylonian myths told by the Jews to remind us all that it is really God, not the Pagan gods who created everything.
Making God into a Liar
Next pages 6 and 68 claims,
O P Q R S T U The Bible has the answer, God's Word is true.
It doesn't and Ham knows it. Ham claims the Bible said in Colossians 2:3 that Christ "has hidden all of the treasures of wisdom and knowledge." This means only God knows everything and He is without lies and deception; He only tells the truth just like it is said in John 17:17. Ham wants parents to say to their kids that in order to know all about dinosaurs and how the world come to existence, and how anything got here at all, we need to consult the One who knows it all— God. In reality, what Ham is actually doing is teaching children how to blaspheme God and His integrity by saying that God created everything thousands of years ago while He actually didn't. Ham is telling parents to tell their kids to ignore the treasures of wisdom and knowledge that Christ is hiding within the depths of the earth and the universe and rely on his ignorance and his imaginations instead.
It seems he's ignorant of (or most likely misusing) Job 12:7-12 were Job tells us to speak to the animals, birds, fish, and the earth and they will teach you.
But ask now the beasts, and they shall teach thee; and the fowls of the air, and they shall tell thee: Or speak to the earth, and it shall teach thee: and the fishes of the sea shall declare unto thee. Who knoweth not in all these that the hand of the LORD hath wrought this? In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath of all mankind. Doth not the ear try words? and the mouth taste his meat? With the ancient is wisdom; and in length of days understanding. Job 12:7-12 (KJV)
Here's the NIV version of the passage.
But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds of the air, and they will tell you; or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish of the sea inform you. Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this? In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind. Does not the ear test words as the tongue tastes food? Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding? Job 12:7-12 (NIV)
Here's a much clearer version of the passage from The Message Bible.
But ask the animals what they think - let them teach you; let the birds tell you what's going on. Put your ear to the earth - learn the basics. Listen - the fish in the ocean will tell you their stories. Isn't it clear that they all know and agree that GOD is sovereign, that he holds all things in his hand - Every living soul, yes, every breathing creature? Isn't this all just common sense, as common as the sense of taste? Do you think the elderly have a corner on wisdom, that you have to grow old before you understand life? Job 12:7-12 (The Message Bible Version)
That means we must look to God's creation in full detail and when we do, we will see that all of what Ham is teaching and claiming is all a blatant, stupid lie. The earth is old and the concept of evolution and million of years (actually billions of years) is true.
Ironically this is one of the verses Ham has printed on one of his idiot plaques he displays at his crackhouse to deceive people into believing that this agrees with what Ham says about creation out of nothing 6,000 years ago while ignoring all the finest details pointing to the exact opposite.
He tells them to stress to their kids that no scientist knows everything. Neither do the creationists know everything. They only just make things up, hide their own flaws, and pretend to be like Mary Poppins who is perfect in every way. Ham wants parents to tell their kids that the Bible has all the answers to everything about dinosaurs and science. It don't and despite what Ham says, the Bible is NOT to be relied on for scientific answers. It has not a dang thing in it about physics, chemistry, evolution, dinosaurs (except birds), gravity, atoms, and electricity. It is intended to be used as a spiritual and devotional book, a book that has all of the spiritual answers to everything that has to do with living a holy righteous life, learning life's lessons from other peoples examples through the stories as told in the old and new testament, and how to get to Heaven and to avoid Hell. Besides the Bible is not written in a whole day you know. The reason YECs, Bible code finders, fundamentalists, and all other forms of bible literalists say that the Bible has all the answers to everything science, the future, etc. is because it's their way of twisting and adding to the Bible to make it the way they themselves wanted it to be. Thus elevating it to something similar to a paper guru, idol, Hari Krishna, fortuneteller and a crystal ball, sage, and ouigi board.
Note: the idiot exercise on page 68 shows to children an example of blaspheming God's infinite wisdom just by having them draw a dot on the page to represent Man's wisdom (including Ham's) and to draw many dots on the paper to represent God's wisdom. God may have infinite wisdom, but Ham doesn't. What he's really doing is encouraging the children to blaspheme God's wisdom that comes from the earth, nature, sky, space, and through the people who actually study to learn about them and give in to the YECs who do no scientific research and studies at all. Instead they just find fault and nitpick at any flaw science has, while hiding their own.
