Cryptozoology, Living Dinosaurs, and Origins: Attacking [and Losing to] the Evolutionary view of dinosaurs and supporting the Biblical [Falsehood] view that man and dinosaurs have lived together and may still live [in dreams]. A site created by a strict creationist named Philip O'Donnell to attack, as the site puts it, the Evolutionary view of dinosaurs” and claims to support the Biblical view that man and dinosaurs have lived together and may still live. It does none of these things. The site supports NO biblical view of any kind and none is all of his claims of living dinosaurs shown in both the site and his idiot book, Dinosaurs: Dead or Alive are valid and hold any credulity. All claims support nothing and never explain the complete absence of human and dinosaur remains all mixed together in the fossil record.
On his site, there are articles that makes claims of alleged living dinosaurs, cryptozoology (Creationism and cryptozoology goes hand in hand like a glove, don't you think?), and the so-called biblical evidence of man and dinosaurs living together. One of them I'll do a rebuttal on, which is entitled, Are Dinosaurs Still Living?, where he claims yes, dinosaurs are living today. Birds are the only dinosaurs living today. But, this is not what O'Donnell is talking about here. O'Donnell is really telling lies for God when he claims that Bible supports his views of dinosaurs and man living together while it in reality doesn't.
The first thing he says in his article is,
"If man has lived with dinosaurs, then you might ask, “Why aren’t they still living today?” According to ancient records they did not all die out, but many were killed by humans (who wants to live next to a T-Rex!) and Noah’s Flood which happened approximately 4,400 years ago."
What ancient records? Simple. The ancient records that are nothing more than fabricated lies creationists made up by taking dragons and monster myths out of context while leaving out the rest of the pieces that clearly debunks their narrow-minded views. If what O'Donnell says is true then we would have seen remnants of dinosaur bones and skins within the ruins of ancient human dwellings along with broken spears and arrowheads embedded within a fossil skeleton of a dinosaur. But none are found!
Like all creationists, O'Donnell claims the Flood happens around 4,500 years ago (he says 4,400 years ago) which is at the same time the Great Pyramids of Egypt were being built. Problem is, no evidence or accounts of Egyptians dropping everything and running for their lives to vainly escape a large wall of water has ever been found in the historical data of Ancient Egypt dating to that particular time.
The real truth of the matter is that dinosaurs perished 65 million years ago long before humans appeared 60 million years later. The only dinosaurs that did survived into modern times were birds. Nothing else.
Next he claims,
"Noah’s Flood was a global event and all the dinosaurs that were not in Noah’s Ark, got buried under tons of rock and sediment in just a few weeks."
If the Flood did happened, the flood would only wash and erode everything away, not bury them. Then the earth would be nothing more than an uninhabitable planet, just like all the rest.
Next he claims,
"Many people, mostly evolutionists, are attacking even the very idea of dinosaurs still living today. The book 'Eyewitness Dinosaur' says that, 'A common misbelief is that dinosaurs were sea monsters, possibly still lurking in the oceans depths.'"
That quote is taken out of context. The book never really said what O'Donnell claims it says. Thus far, no known dinosaur has ever lived in the sea. They were probably marine dinosaurs that adapted themselves to marine life. But thus far, those kinds of dinosaurs has yet to be found if any.
He then went on (in bold letters),
"However, just because scientists don’t think dinosaurs are still around (because of their beliefs) does not alter the fact there are thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dinosaur reports in the last 300 years. Most people that have seen them, never tell anyone for fear that people will think they are silly and foolish."
Who are these “most people” you're talking about, O'Donnell? Are they the ones that are only found stuck in your head? I thought so.
As mentioned before, the claims of “thousands, if not hundreds of thousands of dinosaur reports in the last 300 years” are all direct fabrications creationists invented themselves to prove their myth of dinosaurs and mankind living together despite finding no mixbags of dinosaur/human fossils anywhere in the fossil record. Which does confirm, not alter, the fact that what creationists claim about dinosaurs does indeed make people think they, including O'Donnell, are silly and foolish. No one in his/her right mind is afraid to tell everyone, even creationists that kind of truth.
The next one has got to be one of the dumbest claims ever!
"Evolutionary scientists had claimed that the fish called Coelacanth had evolved legs and went on land to become a land creature some 70 million years ago and was thus non-existent today. However, in 1938, it was found they were dead wrong. A Coelacanth was discovered alive and well in the South African Coast by fishermen. It was recently discovered that if the fish is brought near the surface of the water, it will soon die. If someone had gone there and seen the Coelacanth, but not taken any photographs, the scientists would say they were just false findings. Later, scientists found out that fishermen had been catching those fish for years!"
How stupid can a creationist get?! No evolutionary scientist has ever made such a claim, nor can a Coelacanth die when it's brought near the surface of the water (They do, however, die of decompression when they are brought to the surface of the water, not near it.). They can swim in shallow waters just fine, relying only on dim light to help find their food since their eyes are much highly sensible to light. The first Coelacanth specimen was discovered by Hendrik Goosen, who send it to Marjorie Courtenay-Latimer who had it stuffed and sent to another person by the name of James Leonard Brierley Smith, who instantly recognize it as a coelacanth the moment he saw the specimen for the first time. Immediately, a worldwide search was issued for more discoveries of living coelacanth specimens which leads to another coelacanth catch made in Comoros about 14 years later. The locals living in the area have been seeing coelacanth (called "gombessa" by the locals) more commonly than the outsiders and have been catching them on many occasions. So, they were puzzled by the reaction of the outsiders who wanted the specimen to collect the reward of 100 in British pounds offered for anyone who successfully catch another living coelacanth. Nevertheless, the second specimen was returned to South Africa and the person who found the specimen got his 100 pound reward. No findings were ever false and photographs are not always necessary to prove the existence of an animal or a thing (photographs can be distorted to fool people into believing in certain things.). Seeing a valid, physical specimen up close and personal is proven enough.
This coelacanth fallacy leaves out the fact that what Goosen did saw in 1938 is a modern species of Coelacanth known as Latimeria chalumnae, a species much different than the extinct species Coelacanthidae, which became extinct 70 million years ago. Only 2 Latimeriidae species, L menadoensis and L. chalumnae, has successfully survived into modern times and are found since 1938 in the following places: South Africa, off the Chalumna River, Comoros, Sulawesi (Indonesia), Kenya, Tanzania, Mozambique, Madagascar, Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park in South Africa, and more recently, sister-species in Sulawesi (Indonesia).
Like all creationists, O'Donnell asserts that since this once extinct fish is now known to be alive and living, then there is chance that dinosaurs, thought to be extinct, must still be alive and still be living somewhere. Never mind the fact that all chances of finding such a dinosaur alive and still be living somewhere other than birds is nil.
The next empty-headed strawman reads,
"Evolutionists state that because dinosaur fossils are not found in the same rocks that human and mammal fossils are found in, it proves that the dinosaurs went extinct 65 million years ago. They believe the layers formed over millions of years. The Bible says there was a world wide flood that directly resulted in multiple layers being formed."
Evolutionists don't prove a doggone thing of what O'Donnell claims. He never gets it in his head that mammals appear at the same time as the dinosaurs at the very beginning of the Mesozoic Era about 225 million years ago. Yet, for over 160 million years, the mammals maintain their small size until the dinosaurs of non-avian types died out 65 million years ago. If the Flood did occurred, there will be no layers at all.
"Noah’s Flood is the only way to explain how fish fossils have been found with undigested fossilized fish left inside them."
A blatant distortion made up based on the fact that there are fossil remains of fishes that have choked to death while trying to swallow their prey many times larger than their mouths and throats. That's nothing of old. There are many cases nowadays where people would come across a dead fish lying on the shores of beaches with a large fish still stuck inside their throats like this one here.
"How trillions of creatures became fossilized (fossilization is rare), and how fossilized clams were found in the closed position (which proves they were buried alive)."
There is NO billions and trillions of dead things laid down by water all over the earth. Otherwise we would have no problems finding and digging up fossils by the massive semi-truckloads from even in our own backyard at a very fast rate and have them all stored up and on display at the world's largest massive museum. But this is not the case. Fossils in fact are very rare and there are far less than billions and trillions of dead things out there that were laid down by sandstorms, volcanic eruptions, droughts, localized flooding, disease, and predations all over the earth. None has anything to do with Noah's Flood that would have even wash away the clams if the Flood did occurred.
Floods don't bury. They simply wash away.
Fossilized clams with closed shells proves nothing of what O'Donnell claims about them, either. The fossil remains of clams in some cases is known bury themselves underneath the sea floor to be safe from predators. Even provide small fish protection by sheltering them inside their shells as well. None have been buried alive by the alleged Flood.
Quite possibly, the inspiration behind the infamous billions-of-dead-things tripe, often parroted by Kan Ham, comes from the Karoo Formation in Africa, where remnants of about 800 billion vertebrae animals ranging from a size of a small lizard to about the size of a cow dating back to multiple periods of time are said to be found in. Still, all those 800 billion animals don't prove Noah's Flood to be a global event since all those fossils were made of animals, which have died of multiple events occurring over separate periods of time, that would have greatly over-crowded the Earth many times over if they all have lived at the same time as each other.
"During the flood most dinosaurs sank to the bottom, while the birds and lighter animals stayed near the surface of the mud and water."
All made up out of complete ignorance of fossil remains of small animals found in bottom layers as well as on top. The smaller animals would sink to the bottom the same way dinosaurs would sink if the flood did occurred.
"As the mud dried and turned into stone, the creatures were fossilized and others were turned into coal in just a short number of years, not millions of years. If dinosaurs are still living today, then that would even further prove the Geologic Column to be false."
Another falsehood. The Geological Column does exist. Also, this claim proves O'Donnell doesn't know a doggone thing about coal and how it's really formed. Instead he displays mountains of ignorance by displaying one stupid claim after another. Dinosaurs are alive today as birds. But, that does not mean the Geological Column is false.
Next, he claims,
"As we will learn in the rest of the book, not only are there some dinosaurs still living in the dark jungles of Africa, but there are many others scattered across the globe on land, air, and sea. Many people who scoff at living dinosaurs contend that sightings alone do not prove the existence of dinosaurs today. It is true, there is no definite proof they are still living, but there are over 20,000 reported sightings of dinosaurs in this century alone. There are also thousands of other sightings that people have never told anyone about. “Scores, perhaps hundreds, of trustworthy mariners… have seen what they believe to be such a creature, but they refuse to publish any account of their observations, knowing that they will be insulted and publicly gibbeted as fools and liars if they do.” W. Matheu Williams, Circa 1884 (The Great new England Sea Serpent by J. P. O’Neill copyright 1999)."
The book is all about alleged sightings of a sea monster that has only a body of a snake. No dinosaur ever had snake-like bodies nor did they live in the sea, either.
These 20,000+ reported sightings including those they never tell us about, are in fact creationists invented; all fabrications, made-up hoaxes, and distortions that don't explain why are there are no dinosaur fossils found above and below the Mesozoic strata.
"If you were in a court of law and had 20,000 witnesses on your side, then you would have a very strong case. Of course, there are some hoaxes and misidentifications in all that have been reported. Let’s just say that 10% (2,000) are hoaxes of the 20,000, this would still leave us with 18,000 valid reports. Here are some sightings that have been reported by very legitimate and truthful people: Col. Percy Fawcett, Captain Geog Von Forstner, Captain Werner Lowisch, Carl and Mary Bombay, Pastor Eugene P. Thomas, Pastor Joseph Ellis, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Alexander the Great, Saint Columbia, Arlene Gaal, Herman Regusters, Duane Hodgkinson. Ivan T. Sanderson, Dennis J. Hall, trained naturalists Michael J. Nicoll and E. G. Meade-Waldo, Captain Peter M’Quhae and his crew, and the list goes on."
All these witnesses are not worth a hill of beans if they do not provide strong, valid physical evidence in support of all their claims, which none has ever presented. One can lose a case even with all those people by your side if no valid physical evidence is ever presented in direct support of your case.
Next, O'Donnell tries to give out an example of an alleged sighting by telling this story,
"On July 30 1915, our U28 torpedoed the British steamer Iberian, carrying a rich cargo in the North Atlantic. The steamer sank quickly, the bow sticking almost vertically in the air. When it had gone for about twenty-five seconds, there was a violent explosion. A little later, pieces of the wreckage, and among them a gigantic sea animal, withering and struggling wildly, was shot out of the water to a height of 60 to 100 feet… It was about 60 feet long, was like a crocodile in shape, and had four limbs with powerful webbed feet, and a long tail tapering to a point."
It may have been a giant squid they saw since no dinosaur ever had such features mentioned in the story. Not even a marine reptile like Mosasaurus and Kronosaurus. These Mesozoic reptiles along with Plesiosaurus, in which O'Donnell claims was the infamous “Champ” that was sighted in Lake Champlain in Vermont, has often been mistaken as dinosaurs by those who are not experts on dinosaurs. Admittedly, even I at times would mistaken them as dinosaurs. But, I know for the fact that these reptiles are not true dinosaurs. Just because they live at the same time as dinosaurs doesn't mean they're dinosaurs. Unfortunately, O'Donnell never gets it.
The infamous sightings of “Champ” do no justice in explaining why traces of plesiosaur bones, eggs, and young, are not being found in and around the river. Plus the various descriptions made of the mystery monster include features that don't match that of Plesiosaurus, including “multiple humps or coils, horns or a mane, glowing eyes and/or 'jaws like an alligator' to name a few.
He doesn't even get it in his head that what Roy Chapman Andrews says about no dinosaur bones found above the Mesozoic Strata is indeed true. As you can see, like all creationists' writings, all his writings are formatted to bring doubt into the minds of the hapless people who read his crap and make them to believe everything he says. It's just the way creationists like to play mind games with people in a highly deceiving way.
Finally, O'Donnell concludes his article with this rhetoric,
"Is it possible their fossils have not been found with mammals because the layers were built up in Noah’s Flood? If you believe in the theory of evolution then you would have to believe that some dinosaurs are not still living."
The exact same way as creationism. If you believe in creationism, then you will have to believe that some dinosaurs are not still living since they outside the ark all perish in the alleged Flood of Noah. As mentioned before, O'Donnell never gets it in his head that mammals and dinosaurs are both found in the Mesozoic strata. Both appear at the very beginning of the Mesozoic Era. They both live at the same time. But, mammals throughout the dinosaur age were all small, shrew-like creatures (except the dog-size Repenomamus, a triconodont), until the dinosaurs, in most cases, died out 65 million years ago. Those that survived became birds. And birds are the only dinosaurs still living today.
Science is not about beliefs. It's about facts. All facts, valid and physical. As for O'Donnell's so-called living dinosaurs sightings, that's another thing.
