This, what is shown in the book, is a mistake! Yet, this strict creationist is too clueless to realize this. In the mid to late 1970s', when young earthers began publishing young earth materials on dinosaurs, strict young earther, Kelly Seagraves wrote and published this c1977 book full of fantasies falsely branded as "Biblical Truth known as The Great Dinosaur Mistake — exactly what the book is all about! The Great Dinosaur Mistake brought on by young earth creationists who says dinosaurs once lived with man, and yet the fossil record have proved time and time again that they are all liars since no mixbags of dinosaurs and humans together are found anywhere in the fossil record.
Not only is there an original book version of Seagraves' book, but an online version of it as well. Much of what Seagraves says about dinosaurs has already been debunked, including the Piltdown Footprints — poorly preserved dinosaur prints found in Glen Rose, Texas carved into human footprints by practical jokers, who did this only to attract tourists to the area for profit.
The Introduction
The first part shows the introduction to the book. It gives out some questions about the dinosaur and claims that all the questions can be answered especially by those who believe and accept "The Letter of the Law" — a strict reading and believing of the Bible to be "The Word of God" and accept it as God's Authority on all matters, never mind the very, many matters in which the bible tells nothing about, including dinosaurs. It won't be answered that way. Time and time again, the Bible has been used the wrong way to lie, kill, destroy, and to achieve, even abuse absolute power. Seagraves here is using the Bible to lie and make people believe the lies him and other creationists tell for decades.
Biblical Framework
The next part is the so-called Biblical Framework section where Seagraves tells of the Great Flood that once covered the earth as told in Genesis 6:11-18 KJV. Here Seagraves mentioned 2 claims made by skeptics, who says there's no way can Noah fit all 90 million+ species of organisms past and present into the ark and there was no Worldwide Flood. Seagraves works his magic delivering lies and stupidity and gives an example of how big the ark is and how it is built to float free about 22 ½ feet above the mountains without lodging onto anything. But, that does not explain how (without invoking groundless miracles) did the ark deal with the violent waves bashing the sides of the ark if there was such a violent flood as told by creationists.
The Animals
The Animals section deals with how many animals there are, while Seagraves slams Ernst Mayr, an evolutionary biologist who dealt with the study of birds and how animals are directly related to each other through speciation. Seagraves claims that Noah never bothered to take sea life on board since they all live in the water even though some did perished in the violent waters of the flood and become fossils. If that's the case, the worldwide flood would have destroyed ALL sea life, including coral, sharks, and all those that live in only saltwater and those that live in only freshwater since all forms of water will mixed together and make it totally unfit for any organism to live in. How would Seagraves explain that without invoking groundless miracles that don't logically explain one darn thing?
Since "all flesh died that moved upon the earth" according to Genesis 7:21, then Seagraves assumes Noah must have took up a total of 30,000 species of animals on board in the ark after he narrowed down the animals population after he separated the water creatures from the surface dwellers. This still doesn't explain how did Noah put all those animals into a 450x75x45 ark even if the animals were all baby size.
The Insects
Seagraves, in The Insects section, gets stupid and claims that Noah took up even approximately 850,000 species of insects (including ones that spread disease!) into the ark while being dumb-minded to the fact that insects do multiply rapidly and there could be more than just 2 of every kind of insects in the ark by the time the Flood is over that will overcrowd, get on the nerves of all the animals, Noah and his family on the first and second floor, stricken them with disease, and destroy all of the supplies on the third floor of the ark as well as eat up all the ark's wooden structures.
The Dinosaurs
Like all YECs Seagraves claim that dinosaurs were on the ark. Here, in The Dinosaurs section, he starts playing mind games, By using twisted logic, Seagraves asks some supposedly doubt-casting questions to the reader in a attempt to manipulate the reader to rethink his views on dinosaurs as told in science.
When?
Next, in the When? Section, Seagraves tells about men having dominion over even dinosaurs since God created man in His own image and gave him dominion over all animal life as told in Genesis 1:26. The only dinosaur man is able to rule over is birds. Otherwise, Man never ruled over dinosaurs since dinosaurs and man lived millions of years apart from each other. For over 160 million years, dinosaurs ruled over all life on earth from top to bottom. Then 65 million years ago, they suddenly vanished when the meteorite struck the earth near what is now the Gulf of Mexico. Then 60 million years later, the first ancestors of the human race appeared and begin to dominate the earth. Today we rule the world, but in comparison with the dinosaurs' long spectacular reign, our reign is very, very brief.
Seagraves, unfortunately, never got that kind of logic in his head. Instead, he harbors total ignorance and extreme absent-mindfulness. Then Seagraves asks, "What do we do with the claim that the dinosaur lived 70 million years ago? How are we going to date the time of the dinosaur?" Answer: 1. Nothing. 2. Use accurate dating methods such as radiometric dating.
A clueless conversation
Seagraves then gives out an example of how clueless the fictional paleontologist are in Glen Rose, Texas by showing a conversational example of the following:
Person: "Sir, this fossil I found, is it a dinosaur?"
Paleontologist: "Yes."
Person: "Sir, how do you know it is a dinosaur?"
Paleontologist: "It looks like a dinosaur." (No paleontologist can be that stupid.)
Person: "This particular dinosaur when did he live?"
Paleontologist: "The dinosaur lived some 70 million years ago." (Note: Dinosaurs actually lived c230 million years ago to 65 million years ago.)
Person: How do you know that? Did you use the newest dating method, potassium-argon, carbon 14, one of those radioactive methods to date the fossil so you could tell it was 70 million years old?
Paleontologist: "No." (What a stupid lie! Paleontologists only used radiometric dating methods to date dinosaurs and other prehistoric life that predates the Dawn of Man, not those other dating methods mentioned above in the person quote.)
Person: "Then how do you know the dinosaur is 70 million years old?"
Paleontologist: "Elementary, I talked with the geologist and he told me the rock which contained the fossil is 70 million years old and so naturally anything I find inside is obviously the same age." (This, what Seagraves portrays, is NOT of paleontology! Paleontologists do no such thing as relying only on some logic coming from another scientist without displaying any valid evidence that supports such a thing.)
Person: "You cannot fight logic like that! This is sedimentary rock and by definition sedimentary rock is rock deposited from water which has become solid; if this particular rock formation is 70 million years old, obviously anything you find buried inside was deposited before the sediment became solid and is at least 70 million years old or older."
Paleontologist: "Dinosaurs are 70 million years old; most people accept this statement. It is printed as fact in scientific magazines, periodicals, newspapers, and textbooks." (Here, we see the fictional paleontologist doing exactly what young earthers do themselves. This is what Seagraves wants us to think what paleontologists are like, while they do and say no such thing in reality.)
Here, all along, Seagraves is portraying the paleontologist to be exactly what young earthers are— absolute witlesses who rely on other people's "logic" as "facts" to live by!
Seagraves, in the next section, does the exact same thing with the fictional geologist, whom Seagraves portrays as exactly what young earthers themselves are. The conversation between the person and the geologist starts out like this:
Person: "Sir, I understand from talking to the paleontologist that you told him this sedimentary rock formation is 70 million years old. How did you know that? Did you use one of the radiometric dating methods — potassium-argon, uranium to lead, carbon 14 — to determine that the rock was 70 million years old?"
Geologist: "No." (A Lie! Geologists DO use radiometric dating methods to determine how old the dinosaur fossil is.)
Person: "Then how do you know the rock formation is 70 million years old?"
Geologist: "That is simple, the rock formation is 70 million years old because a dinosaur bone was found in it." (Another Lie! Geologists, just as mentioned before, used radiometric dating methods to determine the age of rocks as well as the dinosaur bones.)
Both the Paleontologist and the Geologist here is portrayed as exactly what young earthers are — So certain are their ways without paying attention to the evidence that proves them they're wrong.
The (sic) Answer!
The next section is The Answer! where Seagraves lies to the reader and states that scientists uses circular reasoning to date fossils and the rocks the fossils are found in. He even tried to make reference to Carl Owen Dunbar and the Encyclopedia Britannica to confirm his ideas about scientists using circular reasoning to date fossils, while scientists do no such thing in reality. Note how Seagraves made no references to where he got this falsehood from. You can bet this is entirely all made up by Seagraves just to slam scientists all because they don't bow to his idiocy.
Carbon 14 Dating
Seagraves lies again in Carbon 14 Dating section, claiming that scientists date dinosaurs by using carbon 14 dating to date them. Big, stupid lie in the third degree. There is no way can scientists use carbon 14 dating methods to date fossils that's millions of years old. Carbon 14 can only date artifacts up to 50,000 years and that's it. Sure it is claimed by creationists to be unreliable, but no more unreliable than a certain man's genealogy found in Genesis 5 and 12 of the Bible. Carbon-14 is unreliable when it's being misused. When used correctly, it can produce highly accurate and fully reliable results. The claim about freshly killed seals being found and dated to be thousands years old is completely debunked here.
Dinosaur Monument
The Dinosaur Monument section contains more stupidity. Here, Seagraves claims that one visiting the Dinosaur National Monument in Jenson, Utah, Not Vernal, will be told in Seagraves' own words,
"…that the dinosaurs buried in the mountainside did not live in the area, but actually lived upstate someplace and were washed down by some type of local flood."
No paleontologist will ever give out such a far-fetched claim. According to recent studies, dinosaurs must have been victims of a severe drought that overtaken the arid or semi-arid land at one year, drying up every bit of water, killing off many dinosaurs that were dying of thirst in large areas that was once a large complex of stream beds that served the dinosaurs as a watering hole to quenched their thirst. When the rains finally came, there was a huge, localized, flash flood that covered the bodies of dinosaurs with sediment, filling up every part of the bones, replacing the original material with rock material, and turning the bones into fossils over a period of millions of years. The Global Flood is not responsible for the 150 million year old event.
A Reptile That Grows
In A Reptile That Grows section, Seagraves claimed that a dinosaur is nothing but a large reptile. In reality, a dinosaur is more like a bird than a reptile. Here, Seagraves states that if a reptile grows for 100 years, he can live for 100 years (yeah, right!). Much different than the life span of a human, a reptile, in Seagraves' own words,
"…the longer a reptile lives, the longer he has time to grow and the larger he becomes."
The secret according to Seagraves? Believe it or not, plants!
Plants
In this section Seagraves, who, like all YECs, advocate the no-death-before-fall-fallacy, never mind there was ever death among the plant kingdom, thinks that animals and people lived longer before the flood because they ate vegetables that are much more nutritious than today's plants thanks to some trace minerals that are found in the soil. To Seagraves, it's because there was no rain to wash and erode all of the minerals that helps to make plants grow. Instead, mist would occur and water the ground. Such pathetically ironic, isn't it? Mist is a form of rain. If there was no rain before the Flood, what do you call mist then? Smoke? Rain, even mist, is not necessary needed to erode the ground since wind itself will do the exact same thing. Does Seagraves mentions this in his talk about creation? No, he doesn't. He just pretends and say it's all true, while all of it is just coming from in his head and nowhere else. In reality, there are certain species of plants such as the plants growing in the rain forest for example, that need much, much, more water in order to survive. Just misting them will never keep those plants alive.
Nowhere does the Bible say anything about man and animals growing larger and living long lives because they ate vegetables. However, the Bible does say that man at one time lived longer lives than normal before the Flood. However, according to one resource, this may be based on the sexagesimal system of the base 60 which the Sumerians have invented, thousands of years ago.
The actual life spans of reptiles works much differently than what Seagraves assumes. Although reptiles do grow throughout their lives, they don't live a long time except for the tortoise. The tortoise can live to about 150 years or more, making it the longest lived creature on earth. On average, some species of lizards can live up to only 2-5 years, crocodiles can live up to 40 to 70-75 years, snakes can live up to 20-30 years depending on species and turtles can live up to 40-50+ years depending upon health and proper care.
Dinosaurs are far from being reptiles. Dinosaurs have been known to grow much, much faster than anyone can ever imagined. Sauropod dinosaurs, for example, take about 10-12 years for them to grow from hatchling to adult. Other dinosaurs took less than that. Although dinosaurs in some cases do live up to 100 years, other dinosaurs on the average can only live far less than that. According to recent studies, a Tyrannosaurus Rex can live only up to 30 years. Smaller dinosaur types lived much less than that.
A Major Factor
Next in A Major Factor section, Seagraves displays the old Vapor Canopy fallacy that would have been Hell on earth if there was such a thing as what YECs suggest before most finally got it in their heads that the idea of a vapor canopy covering the earth would never work and abandoned preaching the fallacy altogether. Only the most strictest of YECs like Seagraves still preach this fallacy.
A Brontosaurus in the Ark
The next section, A Brontosaurus in the Ark, gives out the fallacy of dinosaurs dying out due to Noah's Flood, which is not without major problems and flaws that associates with it. Seagraves, just like all YECs, lyingly claims that man and dinosaurs lived at the same time and that God created man in His own image and gave him dominion over the dinosaurs. He only gave man dominion over just birds because birds are and will be the only dinosaurs man could ever control. All the rest are far too dangerous and too big for man to control. Seagraves thinks there's a speck of truth found in The Flintstones and Alley Oop science fiction shows and comics where they portrayed humans taming and riding sauropod, ceratopsians, and ornithomimosaur dinosaurs at one point in time. He's mistaken. Seagraves relies only on the Bible as evidence for this fallacy. But, unfortunately for him, it's the most unreliable evidence for this idiocy and still doesn't explain how come there are no evidence of humans and dinosaurs together found in the fossil record.
A Comparison
Next, in A Comparison section, Seagraves churns out more fairy tales. He claims that the so-called biblical explanation to why the dinosaurs become extinct is better than the evolutionists explanation. I begged to differ. Seagraves obviously never looked at any literature of Charles Darwin's at all. If he did, he would have known that the term "Survival of the Fittest" is not found in any of Darwin's literature. He doesn't know a doggone thing about Natural Selection either. He just states that Natural Selection is one of the reason why old beings die off and new beings came to take their place. Natural Selection does not work that way. Read this wikipedia article to know exactly Natural Selection woks and what it really means. Seagraves gives out his own flawed definition of what evolution is all about. It just comes to show that Seagraves is clueless when it comes to evolution and that the word actually mean. He says,
"The evolutionary framework indicates in the fossil record, certain animals in certain periods of time died out giving rise to other animals which came into existence, which then died out giving rise to other animals, which ultimately gave rise to man."
Simple, yet outdated. Misunderstood. Pure strawman. Evolution in reality teaches nothing of these things. What it really teaches is that all life change in populated groups over a period of time. That's it! That's all of what evolution teaches. Seagraves thinks the Bible and evolution is not compatible because in his own words,
"The evolutionist says by death came man. (Evolutionists says none of these things.) The Bible says that by man came death — by his disobedience.
This is pure strawman, made up out of ignorance of evolution actually saying that by changing life over time came every organism past and present. Seagraves, like all YECs, believed in the no-death-before-fall fallacy where there was no death or decay of any kind occurring before Adam ate the apple. This fallacy is entirely both biblically unfounded and illogical since when man and animals eat plants, plants do die. When they digest food, they are really causing the food to decay into waste that get deposited to the ground and decompose giving plants all the nutrients needed to grow healthy and strong. Plus, if there was no death before the Fall then what's the point of ever putting the Tree of Life in the Garden of Eden? According to the Bible in full context, we find that man only brought spiritual death to the world when he ate the apple, not physical. If no physical death came before the Fall then everyone must have eaten the fruit from the Tree of Life which grants eternal life to anyone who eats from the Tree of Life. But no one ever bothered. Instead man ate from the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil and lost it all. Through his disobedience, man forced himself to be separated from God. That's why God has sent his Son Jesus Christ to die on the cross for all of our sins and take spiritual death away from us so we can go to Heaven and be with Him forever. If Christ died to take away physical death, and physical death is still among us, then He's not really such a good Savior after all.
Man and Dinosaurs
Now we get to the Man and Dinosaurs section where Seagraves talks about the Piltdown human prints in Glen Rose, Texas. Footprints that are alleged to be human prints that are in fact nothing more than dinosaur prints that are poorly preserved carved into human prints by local people, who did this to attract the gullible into the area for profit. What Seagraves is talking about here is the stories he invented himself about how he met up with a man who claims to have spotted the human prints in 1911. Seagraves never gave out the name of the person and where he came from. He just says he met a man, who says he spotted the alleged prints in 1911. Seagraves also mentions another story, he possibly invented himself, involving himself being invited to join a research group (possibly Carl Baugh's group) in searching for the alleged prints in 1971. He claims to have found some alleged footprints made by humans. Chances are, they are carved not by "Indians" (Native Americans), but by hoaxers; especially YECs, who lived in that local area, who did all that just for personal gain.
Some Opinions
In the Some opinions section, Seagraves claimed to have invited some scientists to the area to look at what they have found. Seagraves claimed that scientists should be fair and come up with valid conclusions. They are, unlike YECs, who do quite the opposite. Seagraves claimed that the scientists who look at them says that they definitely look like human prints. That's because the prints were carved, not genuine. None of these prints are strong evidence for man and dinosaurs being contemporaries for they are all carved, not naturally made.
Other Evidence
Then in Other Evidence section, Seagraves made more alleged claims of Piltdown prints as well as alleged wall paintings of dinosaurs sighted in Rhodesia (now called Zimbabwe), a country located right near South Africa. What the paintings really depict are nothing more than visions of modern and mythical animals as seen under a trance by the Shamen of the Khoisan-speaking San (or Bushmen). These spiritual leaders engage in dancing, healing, communications with spirits, and other types of rituals while creating paintings symbolizing what they saw and become in the spiritual world. These supposed dinosaurs, especially the ones as depicted in a small gray picture found on Dave Woetzel's Ancient [sic Dinosaur Depictions] page, don't look like any dinosaur whatsoever, especially sauropod dinosaurs which Woetzel falsely claims the image depicts while ignoring the fact that the animals don't have long necks and long whip-lash tails. Two of the animals' bodies looked flexible and concaved and all of their legs appear to be real short and stumpy in comparision with the long tree trunk-like legs and feet of the actual sauropods. In comparison with the authentic, spectacular paintings made by the real ancient Sans, these alleged depictions looks as if they are made through a photo editing program by a strict creationist who distort bushmen art to help spread lies and enhance their narrow-minded beliefs. Even if the drawings were of dinosaurs, this still doesn't explain how come no human and dinosaur remains mixed together have been found in the fossil record.
A Better Explanation
It's no brainer of how the creationists would invent stories to win people to their sides by saying that it's all true, yet turned around and invent stories that has no merit, no evidence, and no truth to them. In A Better Explanation section, just like before, Seagraves claims that the Bible give out a much better explanation on dinosaurs better than the evolutionists. It doesn't. The Bible tells and explains not a dang thing about dinosaurs despite Seagraves' assumptions of it. Everything creationists teach is nothing but inventive stories, fabrications, emotional pleadings, slander, elaborate hoaxes, and Bible verses distorted about to fit the views of the creationists.
One of the inventive stories is shown right here in the section where Seagraves claims in his own words,
"He (dinosaur) lived before the flood, roamed the earth, was the king of the creatures of pride, created by God to display His power to mankind, he died out because of the great flood and the drastic changes after the flood."
..while ignoring the complete lack of physical evidence of such a scenario.
Another story Seagraves invents in his drivel is the vapor canopy fallacy, which says, in one part, that when the flood destroyed the earth, it destroyed the canopy as well. Thus, causing the animals and people to live much shorter lives — if they miraculously survive being severely scalded to death that is. Seagraves also claims that trace minerals that once covered the soil were all washed to sea during the Flood. Hence this is why, according to Seagraves, kelp in the sea has grown at a "fantastic rate" and that seawater over the years, in Seagrave's own words, "… must be very rich in elements essential to life." This stupid claim is entirely made up. If trace minerals did get washed out to sea in the Flood, then the land would be completely bear of plant life and everything else that depend on it, while the sea would be crawling with all sorts of marine life! In reality, the flood would have destroyed all plant life (including marine plant life) while completely destroying all mineral content in the soil and everything else along with it if Noah's flood did occurred years ago. Seagraves has got to be out of his mind to purpose such a stupid fallacy, which he is.
A Drastic Change
In A Drastic Change section, Seagraves talks about what life was like after the Flood when the conditions have all gone downhill since then and animals had to compete with each other for food. I know for certain that this implies that God has set the animals up for the fall. If God wanted the animals alive and yet most, including the dinosaur, died off due to post-flood conditions, then what's the point of rescuing them from the Flood anyway?
According to Seagraves, after the Flood, God gave mankind permission to eat meat, not just vegetation. Actually mankind wasn't barred from eating meat even before the Fall and the Flood. God only provided man and animals with plants for food (Genesis 1:29) and then provided man with everything he can eat from plants to animals after the Flood ended (Genesis 9:3). Creationists believe that man and animals ate only plants before the flood, but then afterwords man was given permission to eat meat as well. Even animals began preying upon each other as well. If Young Earth was true and The Flood did occurred, everyone may have to because they will all have no other choice. The great flood would have destroyed all plant life on land and under the sea. With no plants around, animals starve, and when animals starve, they die and get eaten by other animals that are also starving as well. Noah and his family will have to eat only meat because all of the soil would have been washed away so they can't plant crops no matter how hard they tried, until all of the meat is gone and the whole family would starve to death. No doubt the worldwide flood has major problems associated with it. Note Seagraves' made-up nonsense about vultures and buzzards (modern descendants of dinosaurs) eating up dinosaur eggs when laid in a "shallow hole" like iguanas do.
A Mighty Hunter
In A Mighty Hunter section, Seagraves gets with more made up stories about man, being a "mighty hunter", coexisting with dinosaurs by mentioning again false evidences of dinosaurs coexisting with man creationists like Seagraves themselves gave out, including the distorted cave art in Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) as well as the Piltdown prints in Glen Rose, Texas as well as in rain forests, where reports of alleged dinosaurs being sighted that will make elephants look very tiny despite finding no traces of bones, eggs, nests, and fully intact dinosaur bodies in that area. Also, Seagraves gave out alleged claims of people spotting and killing off a large snake that's said to be 150 feet long as well as a news report for a possible tabloid made about an alleged sighting of a long neck marine reptile measuring about 150 feet long. Both have no valid physical evidence turned up to support both of these claims that are nothing more than 2 hoaxes made up as a publicity stunt.
Extinction
More stupidity coming from Seagaves in the Extinction section who made a up idiotic, laughable, made up nonsense about when one goes to a park in San Diego, California, that person will hear a tour guide at the San Diego Wild Animal park talking to the people about insects and man. Insects, so says the made up tour guide of Seagraves, are increasing at an alarming rate and nothing could stop their rise (Yeah right! Never mind the insect-eating animals and the DDT poisons man makes to keep the insect populations in check.). They would compete with man for survival and, in the evolutionary scale, would eventually take the place of humans and inherit the earth after the humans die off. Question: Where does Seagraves get all of this nonsense from other than his head? Only from his head perhaps? From science fiction books? Likely so. For no tour guide will ever say such a thing to his/her group they're taking on a tour of the zoo.
A Very Great Flood
In A Very Great Flood section, Seagraves tells about the great global flood and how it covered even the highest of mountains in the world. As mentioned before, it is not without any major problems associated with this fallacy.
Not Just a Rainstorm
Seagraves then continues with Not Just a Rainstorm section where Seagraves invokes the eruption of volcanoes to explain what the fountains of the deep actually meant in Genesis 7:11-12. Problem is, there are no indication that the verse refers to any volcanic and/ or geyser eruptions and volcanoes are not always necessary to create powerful Tsunami waves since big earthquakes will do the exact same thing.
The Fossil Record
The next section is The Fossil Record where Seagraves explains in his own way how a fossil is formed. He is so clueless of what he's saying that he just doesn't know what he's talking about. He claims that fossils are formed at a very rapid pace. Yes, but he also ignores the fact that fossils can also be formed at a very slow pace as well. Seagraves thinks that what you need according to him to form fossils is "the proper amount of lime, sand or other sediment, the proper amount of pressure, some type of catastrophic event, and suitable cementing and fossilizing chemicals in the water." No, that is not how a fossil is formed. This is how a fossil is formed in reality. Seagraves also claims that no new fossil are being formed today which is a blatant lie. This page here debunks Seagraves' blatant falsehood.
He then makes up a false example of how the 'evolutionist', who accepts uniformitarianism (something none of today's scientists in reality believes in nor accepts anymore.), "builds" up a "concept" that is known as the geologic column with life in simpler forms at the bottom and advanced forms at the top and formed by local floods and cataclysms all over the earth starting from the Cambrian Era 500 million years ago to today.
The geologic column don't work that way. Nor is the fossil record anything like that at all. The geologic column actually starts with the Pre-Cambrian Era and builds up all the way to the Holocene Epoch of today. This, what Seagraves is displaying, is pure example of shear ignorance of how evolution and natural selection works and what the fossil record is really telling us.
Evolution is not at all about just simpler form evolving into complex forms. It's all about life evolving and branching out from a common ancestor. It's about how organism, no matter how simple, complex, and fully-formed, changes over a period of time, descending with modification, and adapting to the ever changing environments that surrounds them. It's about changing occurring through Natural Selection. Offspring being modified versions of their parents. It's about great diversity in species, modification, adaptation, and survival. It is both fact and theory. All of God's way of modifying and enhancing His Creation no matter how simple or complex they are.
No doubt, Seagraves doesn't know what he is saying about the fossil record along with the geologic column. He just uses his imagination and pretends that the imaginary geologist of Seagraves made up the geologic column by building up one strata after another by gathering one rock layer each from various locations throughout the world and builds it up from there. No geologist ever done such a thing. Seagraves, like all young earth creationists, claims that the geologic column along with the time period ages does not exist - a blatant lie in the third degree! The geologic column does exist, including this one in North Dakota.
The Problem with Order
The next section is entitled The Problem with Order, where Seagraves brings on more falsehoods and stupidity about the Lewis Overthrust - something Talkorigins will explain what it is and debunk Seagrave's idiotic claims about it.
A New Set of Questions
Now we get to A New Set of Questions section where Seagraves gives out the fallacy that says the fossils were sorted in each of their own layers by the floodwaters as it was rising up to above the mountaintops. The smaller ones are buried in their own layers at the bottom, the larger ones are buried in their own layers at the top, with mankind buried at the last layer on the top. This kind of fallacy is known as Ecological Zoning, one of the fallacies YECs made up to explain why are the fossils arranged they way they are. Never is this fallacy without any problems and flaws associated with it.
The Answer
The next section is The Answer, where Seagraves tells the reader that the fossil record is the result of the Great Flood, which is a blatant lie. He also claims that "we" (Seagraves and his cronies) have "their" explanation in the hydrological sorting of ecological niches, which is debunked in the previous link above. Those who advocate the zoning fallacies all failed to explain how do they explain the plants; the kinds of plants that are extinct that are found exclusively in certain layers and none elsewhere; plants that don't runaway when the floodwaters rise. Plus, a violent flood like Noah's flood would never arranged the fossil record like what we see in the fossil record. Instead, it would jumbled up all the fossils into a huge mix bag, even wipe them all completely out without a trace.
But What About Noah?
Now Seagraves gets to the section called But What About Noah?, where he talks about Noah stepping out of the ark into a much different world than what it once was before the Flood. Seagraves claims that the men of today are no different than the men of Noah's day when they refuse to believe that the Flood would come. Despite Seagraves' claims, the Flood model offers no better explanation than anything else. In some cases, fossils were formed by various cataclysms such as sandstorms, localized flooding, volcanic eruptions, and severe droughts. But there are times when fossils formed in much quieter conditions such as when an Ichthyosaur dies of old age and sank to the bottom of the sea. Untouched by predators, as the skin and flesh rots away revealing its bones and teeth, the body would gradually be covered up with sediment and be buried there for millions of years while being filled up with sediment that will change all of the bones, teeth, and other hard parts of the body to stone.
Then Seagraves mentions about the Occam's razor claiming that it says a much better more simpler explanation could be correct. If that's the case according to the Skeptics Dictionary's definition of that term, the Occam razor would most certainly be nothing more than a worthless blunt razor. However, this is not what the Occam razor is all about. Click here to see another definition of Occam's Razor from Wikipedia.
Once again he reminds the reader of the fallacies of no new fossils formed and the fossil record being the result of Noah's flood in which both are debunked and rendered false as mentioned before. Seagraves claims, "We should expect the fossil record and the Biblical record to agree." Sorry, the Biblical record as told according to the creationists does not agree with the fossil record.
A Little More Evidence
Then in A Little More Evidence section, Seagraves gave out 2 examples of fossils being so-called rapidly buried in a flood. One is the discovery of fish fossils with soft parts inside being found and tree fossils being found cut through many several layers of strata in Nova Scotia. Much of what Seagraves is showing is all made up, including the story about scientists (young earthers posing as scientists perhaps) doing experiments on some dead fish by putting them in cages and buried them in mud to experiment on how did the soft parts get preserved. As far as I know, no real scientist has ever did such an experiment like that.
What we really see is not the actual soft part of the animal being preserved, but <i>imprints</i> of the soft parts, including the scales, being made after the original material have decayed away, leaving behind an imprint in the mud that changed into rock over a period of millions of years.
The next so-called evidence for rapid burial is the tree fossils that were cut through many layers known as the polystrate trees. These are fallacies that young earthers uses as evidence for Noah's Flood and rapid burial. Just like all of the other claims, this YE claim is not without its share of flaws. The next 2 segments, Of Coal and Oil, and But When? displays just how ignorant Seagraves is to the fact that coal and oil does take millions of years to form. How it takes millions of years to form is explained here.
Traditionally
Just like all YECs, Seagraves would often invoked the flood myths told for centuries around the world to justified the Global Flood Myth just as much as they invoke dragon legends told worldwide over centuries to justified the falsehood of dragons being dinosaurs people saw, fought, and killed. The Traditionally segment gives out claims of flood stories being told by Greeks, Romans, and Native Americans and many other races throughout the world over the years, while ignoring the fact that Egyptian Mythology is among the few countries out there that's completely void of Flood myths even though the country of Egypt is located along the Nile River. Much of the Flood stories is based on localized flooding incidents that are a common occurrence in where the people lived. Others are spread about by missionaries, who incorporated the biblical stories of the Flood into traditional native stories told time again in certain areas of the world.
Another flood fallacy is the many claims of people sighting Noah's Ark on Mount Ararat as claimed in the A Mountain in Turkey segment, where Seagraves made up many unlikely accounts of people sighting Noah's Ark on Mt. Ararat while ignoring the verse in Genesis 8:4 where it says that the ark rested on the mountains of Ararat, not on one mountain. Every ark sighting claim have been discredited and in some cases have proven to be a hoax made up as a publicity stunt including the most recent one here. Plus many of the stories have been known to contradict each other like the stories about the ark being sighted easily in comparison with stories about the ark being extremely hard to find.
Then, Seagraves tries to use the human population fallacy to prove that the earth is thousands of years ago while asking the question: Where have all the People gone? To help debunk this stupidity of an explanation Seagraves gives out in the segment, click here.
Lest We Forget
Seagraves gives out more fallacy about how did the animals behave inside the ark during the flood in the Lest We Forget segment, where he says God remembered Noah and all those inside the ark as told in Genesis 8:1. But that doesn't ease the burden of taking care of all those 30,000 animals and 850,000 pairs of insects stored inside the ark. To take care of all of those animals, you have to have much more than eight people to take care of them. Plus, adequate shelters, food, places to give them exercise, stimulation, ventilation, and other forms of proper care. However, Seagraves here uses his imagination and pretends that God must have put all of the animals on suspended animation or caused to hibernate and sleep throughout the year-long trip. That way, he won't have to deal with the problem of how did Noah and his family care for all those countless thousands of animals on the ark without dealing with major problems involving animal care concerning disease, malnutrition, feces, and food spoilage.
Note how Seagraves, at the bottom of the paragraph, claims that the animals are not to breed in the ark since God has slowed down their life processes throughout the voyage. Like I said, nowhere does the Bible say anything about it. This is all made up by Seagraves so that they won't have to deal with the problems associated with the caring of animals inside the ark; by the time the Flood ended, the animals would have all been dead due to the hellish conditions inside the ark similar to the hellish conditions African captives faced while being kidnapped from their homeland and deported into slavery.
Back To Noah
Then Seagraves, ever absent-minded, tells his own version of the story of Noah's and the Flood in Back To Noah, the last segment found in his book and his site. In the segment, Seagraves tells a make-believe tale about a scientist, coming from some university in the past, who disbelieves in Noah's warning of the coming Flood because he believes in uniformitarianism and studies meteorology. This fictional person convinces the people to not give in to Noah since there was no rain falling from the sky but rather there will always be just mist coming from the ground to water the land (Mist is a form of rain. This way, YEEs would contradict themselves when they claimed that no rain fell on earth before the Flood, yet turn around and say that mist, which is a form of rain, came from the ground and water the earth.). Seagraves even makes-believes about the religious leaders who also refuses to listen to Noah while there are better things going on than wasting time building a boat on dry land. But, then according to Seagraves, the people saw all those fictional bugs and animals going up into the ark and then the rains came and all of the pretend 3 million people drowned while the ark floated away with the living cargo inside.
Despite what Seagraves claims in the end of his book, using Noah's ark as a pictured comparison to Jesus Christ will do us no good concerning about the conditions of the ark when it comes to worries over diseases, adequate maintenance, ventilation, food, exercise, proper places to dispose of animal feces, etc. When you enter into the ark or any wooden ship that has no adequate fixes or a proper physicality or maintenance, you may wound up being susceptible to diseases, malnutrition and other pitfalls of being inside a wooden ship. Just ask the African Americans whose ancestors were crowded into wooden ships that are setting sail on a direct coarse to slavery in America.
Jesus came to earth to bring life to us all. And he certainly did brought life to us all and paved the way for us to go to Heaven so we can be with Him forever. The YECism version of the ark, on the other hand, only brought death. Especially to all those extinct animals that have survived the flood only to die off a short while later after they got off the boat. Thus, it is entirely evident that comparing the 2 well known Christian symbols with each other concerning salvation is highly useless and unaccounted for.
Conclusion,
Like all YECs, Seagraves only follows a strict literal, albeit distorted Bible interpretation, convinced that what is said in the Bible is true despite the contrary. The very last page of this idiot site, For Further Study, is where Seagraves presents 3 more online versions of his idiocies he dredged up from his head based on that distorted Bible reading that tells of the alleged claims of Noah's ark sightings, denial of the existence of UFOs, and Seagraves' own version of the story of Jonah and the Whale. With all of those idiocies abound, including what is shown on the main page of the parentcompany.com site, one must wonder, how can Seagraves be consider a "scientist" while he does not have a single clue to what he's talking about. Especially when it concerns dinosaurs. Like all creationist literature, Seagrave's book about his own great dinosaur mistake, is entirely all made up, with no speck of truth inside of it, just to win gullible people into the young earth extremist cult only for personal gain, including Seagraves' own.
